Atoning the Atoner

R and I ordered Atonement last night on PPV. I KNOW! Glistening, riveting, glorious lives we do lead. Be jealous. But not to jealous - jealousy is not cute. OR SO I’VE BEEN TOLD.

Back to Atonement. Let me tell you how long this movie is. This movie is so long that even R dozed off a couple of times. And this from a man who watches (willingly!) things like Book TV and the Bloomberg Network. I woke up a few more times than R did and when I’d realize it was still on, I’d softly groan inside a little.

The movie is so long that you may just start thinking you’re a character within it. I found myself starting to speak in a British accent, I even began moving my arms exaggeratingly around a la Kiera Knightley.

What’s with KK pulling her arms practically behind her back when she runs/walks briskly? The teen used to do that when he first learned to walk (sweet, sweet bebe) and I called his arms his “wings”. If you have no idea what I’m talking about, watch the movie and you’ll see exactly what I mean.

If you do order/rent this flick: BRING REINFORCEMENTS. i.e. food rations, gallons of water, plenty of pillows and blankies.

Don’t get me wrong, the movie is not bad although it is a little sad… it’s just long as fuck! I think R and I were so relieved it was over that during the sad bits towards the end we both sighed, “Ah… that’s sad…” And immediately rolled over and went back to sleep.

~~~
I need to buy a pair of flats for work. The office is pretty goshdarned casual, to the point that when I wear heels I kinda look like a street walker in comparison to everyone else. Sadness. I actually really do like dressing up for work. Now I’m kind of in between dressed up and down: somewhere in capri and ballet flats land.
It’s bliss on my back. Well, not bliss, but it definitely helps to make it feel better. Problem? I have exactly 2 pairs of flat shoes. Crazy, right? One brown and one camo (I support our troops in more of a fashion sense). At one point I did have 2 pairs of black but they were effing uncomfortable, yo! Why is it that FLATS could be the most uncomfortable pairs of shoes I’ve ever owned?
I’m bringing all this up and meandering around the point to say: How cute are these? They’re just so precious I want to sprinkle sugar on them and eat them bit by bit.
I’d get them but then, problem anew: I own NOTHING navy. Back to the drawing board…
~~~

The teen has a game today and I’m excited to see him play. I missed last week’s game due to my foray into the salon (and if that’s not a reason to miss any given thing, I don’t know WHAT is) so I can’t miss this one.

To make myself productive til game time (and due to the fact I couldn’t - try as I might - sleep past 9:30 this morning), I have been cleaning the apartment. DEEP cleaning. Cats outside on the patio (with food and water and bed, don’t worry about those fools), cleaning the top of the fridge and inside the toaster oven, cleaning.

So I’ll get back to that. And remember, next time you run out of your Lunesta, order Atonement. SAME THING.

Edited to add: I BOUGHT THOSE DAMN SHOES. Afterwards, I was forced to go check to see if Old Navy had anything in, well, navy… and I found a shirt for 1.99. Blissful shopping day…

    I er - discovered - a copy online of Atonement months ago and have been putting off watching it because I heard it was a long ass movie. I heard the book was worse. Now I’ll probably never see it ha ha.

    I need to find cute black flats for work b/c I wore heels to two weddings and shooting for 8 hours + heels = bad news. Someone was wearing the cute croc ones in Vegas. I don’t know though, can I rock crocs? *shudders*

    I need new flats for work as well. I’m looking for some sales though! Maybe I’ll check out Marshalls and TJ Maxx in a couple weeks.

    Mary, you are so humorous. Lol..u have no idea.

    Enjoy the kid’s game!

    I’ll have to keep Atonement in mind. I don’t take Lunesta, but I do take something to sleep. Maybe that movie can be my new wonder sleep drug :-)

    Hehe, I was just thinking I needed a movie to watch tonight, and I was considering watching Atonement at some point… I think I’ll pick something else ;) I know what you mean with the shoes! Mine were a bit dressy for work too. I bought two cute pairs recently, one is already falling to pieces tho :/ Not impressed.

    Corey: It was good, great acting… but one of those movies where it will like show a character’s face for minutes on end and just go on and on… there are so many ways they could have made this movie shorter.

    Skechers has some cute shoes out right now, which I totally wanted to buy, but they were a little more than I wanted to spend. This bee is on a budget. Check them out, though. I can’t do the crocs. Not in public anyway.

    Inga: Check to see if you have a Rack Room anywhere near you. Their shoes aren’t the best ever (in fact, kinda remind me of Payless) BUT they had TONS of flats and much cheaper than Marshall’s (I had checked there, too). And thanks. Hehe! You always make me smile toooooooooo…

    Kari: I have something to help me sleep, ADVIL PM! Oh man I love that shit. Sigh… but yeah, I’ll order Atonment next time I run out!

    Nicola: If you are in the mood for a quiet, long, sad movie than this be it. I mean, I AM in those moods sometimes… last night just didn’t happen to be one of them. haha… Oh I hope my cheapies don’t fall apart so fast. =/

    The crocs aren’t hateful I almost would say borderline cute though!

    Not as bad as other crocs but still… they’re crocs. I don’t know, Corey. You rock them then tell me all about it. And take pics! :D

    Love the shoes, love them!! I love ballet flats, but they do hurt my feet worse than heels, I think its the lack of arch support. I am moving from where you are currently at dress wise for work, to business again. Oh I can wear heels without the boys at work making the said streetwalker comments, oh yes my boys at current job made those comments. LOL

    Tons of cute flats out there girl, just try not to do a lot of walking in them, pain in the toes!

    Deep cleaning!! COME ON OVER! :mrgreen: I have made a mental note to not get that movie, we watched “Flags of our Fathers” finally and it was OK, interesting story but I was expecting more.

    I must have been the only person who kinda liked atonement and even cried. LOL But then again, I am weird like that.

    Since you are in a cleaning mood…you wanna take a flight to NY and help a friend? LOL

    Angel: I miss my heels every day and I honestly feel more productive when I dress up a little. However, there are days when all you really want to do is wear jeans (today), when you feel like crap (today) and TOM in in town (today) and those days don’t always fall on Fridays. lol

    I hope you love the new job!!

    I liked Flags of our Fathers, made me cry at the end. It was pretty slow, though.

    Amneris: I didn’t hate the movie, it was just so damn long!! I’d come over but I didn’t do the floors, and neither did R, so I’m gonna marinate on that til the floors mop themselves. EYE ROLL. lol!
